New Features in iPhone Firmware 2.2 Beta 2: Tips and Tricks

Apple has issued the second beta versions of iOS 9.3, OS X 10.11.4, tvOS 9.2 beta 2, and WatchOS 2.2 to users participating in the developer release testing programs for iPhone, IPad, iPod touch, Mac OS X, Apple TV, and Apple Watch. The new builds continue to improve features and enhancements on the respective operating systems, and include multiple bug fixes.

For iOS 9.3.2 beta 2, some minor adjustments to existing features have been noticed, like the ability to enable both Night Shift mode and Low Power Mode at the same time on an iPhone or iOS device, a function which is currently limited to either of the useful features but not both concurrently in iOS 9.3.1.

Apple announced iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 on June 22, 2020, at its annual WWDC 2020 event, with a developer beta released on the same day and a public beta released on July 9, 2020.[103] iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 were released on September 16, 2020, alongside the iPad (8th Generation) and iPad Air (4th Generation). All devices that supported iOS 13 also support iOS 14. This makes the iPad Air 2 the first device to support seven versions of iOS and iPadOS, from iOS 8 to iPadOS 14. Some new features introduced in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 include redesigned widgets that can now be placed directly on the homescreen (only for iOS), along with the App Library, which automatically categorizes apps into one page, Picture in Picture in iPhone and iPod Touch, and the CarKey technology to unlock and start a car with NFC. iOS and iPadOS 14 also allow the user to have incoming calls shown in banners rather than taking up the whole screen (the latter view is still available as an optional function).[104] It was succeeded by iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 on September 20, 2021.

Approximately two weeks after the release of first OS X 10.11.6 and tvOS 9.2.2 beta, Apple has now seen fit to release the second beta for the aforesaid software for tvOS and Mac, respectively. However, the company missed out on the first beta of watchOS, but this time it didn't. So alongside the developer beta 2 of OS X 10.11.6 and tvOS 9.2.2, Apple has also released the first developer beta for watchOS 2.2.2. So let's dive in to see what's new in the beta 2 of Apple's upcoming firmware for its various devices.

watchOS 2.2.2 beta 2 for developers can be installed on your Apple Watch via your iPhone. Download the beta 2 software on your iPhone and then connect your Apple Watch with your phone. However, make sure that your Apple Watch has at least 50 percent of battery life remaining. If it's not, you can always plug it in and charge while your iPhone installs the beta 2 firmware. Moreover, make sure your iPhone is also running the iOS 9.3.3 beta 2 firmware, which Apple released today. Other than this, also make sure that your Apple Watch is in a close range of your iPhone.

At this point in time, we do not expect Apple to include any forward-facing features in any of its firmware updates. This is because the company is looking forward to adding extra features in the next upgraded software for its devices. As far as the beta 2 is concerned, the update only brings bug fixes and performance enhancements to the table. Nonetheless, we will definitely keep you guys posted for any changes that we find in the beta upgrades.

Unlike for iOS, Apple doesn't currently have a public beta program for watchOS, so you'll only get these new features on your watch when the software is finalized. That's probably going to take (at least) a few weeks.

This firmware release is the non-beta version of the 3.0.2 beta firmware release. It includes all of the fixes from the 3.0.2 beta, and has now been tested thoroughly enough to be elevated from a beta version to a final version. The 3.0.2 final release contains one additional fix that wasn't included in the beta.
